Jamie Moyer
A real throw back to a different era of baseball.
When Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer slipped on his jersey to play in 2010, he would play in four decades. Jamie was 47 at the time. His long career showed 269 wins versus 209 losses. He was not a superstar, but good enough to play for 8 different teams. His best season was in 2003 when he posted a 21-7, 3.27 ERA for the Seattle Mariners and made the American League All Star team. With a velocity barely exceeding 80 mph, he was not a flame thrower which probably explains his longevity. He used a combination of four different pitches with good control. Following the 2010 season, Moyer had Tommy John surgery and did not play in 2011, but he was still not through. At the age of 49, the Colorado Rockies signed him to a one year contract in 2012. On May 12 he became the oldest pitcher ever to win a game. On June 1, Jamie’s major league career came to an end when, after starting the season, 2-5, the Rockies released him.
